Tamil Language Learning and Promotion Committee (TLLPC) organised the Media Experience Programme for Year 1 Tamil students in JC/CI. This programme was in collaboration with Oli 96.8FM, the only official Tamil Language radio station in Singapore. The main objective of the programme was to build students’ confidence in the use of Tamil Language.
The programme was conducted in three phases; one-day workshop (Phase 1), shadowing of the deejays (Phase 2) and co-hosting with the deejays.
The one-day workshop equipped the participants with the knowledge on how Tamil is used when speaking on air, in the creation of radio advertisements, digital news and they were also given brief introduction to the history of Tamil radio station in Singapore.
In phase 2, participants shadowed the deejays in 3 to 4 different time belts and learned how a deejay’s typical work day at the radio station is like. In the final phase, participants co-hosted with the deejays.
The exposure gained through the media experience programme enabled students to converse in Tamil with greater confidence. It also created an awareness among the participants with regard to the use of Tamil in the media and to media related careers.

Pazhuppu is a stage performance by Hypokrite, Ravindran Drama Group’s youth platform. It took place at Aliwal Arts Centre on 6/10/17, Friday and 7/10/17, Saturday. It is a coming-of-age story of what it means to identify as a Singaporean Tamil, targeted at an audience of youths aged 18 to 35.
